About me

Sally Thornton, MNCPS Acc

Accredited Registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS)

Hi, I’m Sally.

I’m a counsellor working in Exeter and online, offering talking therapy for adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties. I work in a flexible and responsive way, which means we shape the focus and direction of our work together.

Alongside my private practice, I also work with two local charities, providing free and low-cost counselling for adults in Devon.

I offer a space where we can talk about what is going on for you, with acceptance, curiosity and compassion.

People come to counselling with all kinds of experiences - sometimes clear, sometimes harder to put into words. Wherever you find yourself, we can begin there.

I work in a person-centred way, which means I don’t tell you what to do or make assumptions about what you need. Instead, I pay close attention to what you bring, and we think together about what feels most important.

Sometimes this involves making sense of what is happening in your life now, and sometimes it involves looking at earlier experiences or patterns that may feel connected. We can follow what unfolds, rather than trying to force things into a set structure.

Before training as a counsellor, I worked as a solicitor and in early years education. These experiences deepened my appreciation of how differently people experience the world, and how important it is to feel heard and understood within the context of your own life.

I hold professional indemnity insurance and am registered with the Information Commissioner.
